Dr. Wickstrom is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Education at Lakehead University. She received her PhD in Developmental Psychology and Education, from the Dr. Eric Jackman Institute of Child Study, in the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, at the University of Toronto in 2023.

Dr. Wickstrom is particularly interested in early years education, and classroom-based research. She specializes in play-based learning. Her research addresses how educators can support critical foundational mathematics skills through teacher-facilitated play. She is also an experienced primary education classroom teacher.
